Water Dropper with Double
Lotus Pod Decor
Hsiu-nei-ssu Kuan Ware,
Southern Sung Dynasty
(A.D. 1127-1279)
This water dropper
has two orifices. When
water is poured into the
dropper, by covering one
orifice with a finger it
is possible to control the
rate at which the water
drops on to the inkstone
through the syphon
principle. This lotus-pod
water dropper fits together
with a water pot in the
shape of a lotus flower,
both having corresponding
holes.
